Oracle XML DB installation/re-installation

July 31, 2012 Leave a comment

Verify if XML DB is installed by querying dba_registry view

SQL>select comp_name,comp_id from dba_registry;

COMP_NAME                                                   COMP_ID
——————————————                       ——————————

Oracle Database Catalog Views                   CATALOG
Oracle Database Packages and Types         CATPROC

It can be seen, XML DB is not installed.

XML DB can be installed with the database configuration assistant (dbca) or by calling the catqm.sql script. catqm stands for catalog script for sQl xMl management.

When the script is called, it must be given (in the following order):

  • the XML DB password,
  • the XML DB’s default tablespace
  • the XML DB’s temporary tablespace

Create a tablespace for XML DB

create tablespace xmldb_ts datafile ‘/u01/oradata/bharatdb/xmldb_ts.dbf’ size 10M autoextend on maxsize unlimited extent management local uniform size 1M;

Also, the pool size must be configured sufficiently large:

SQL> alter system set shared_pool_size = 80M scope=spfile;

The script must be run as sys

sql> set feedback off

sql> >@?/rdbms/admin/catqm xml_passwd xmldb_ts temp

Check if XDB component got reflected in the dba_registry view

sql> select comp_name,comp_id from dba_registry;

COMP_NAME                                                   COMP_ID
——————————————                       ——————————

Oracle Database Catalog Views                   CATALOG
Oracle Database Packages and Types         CATPROC
Oracle XML Database                                    XDB

Re-installing XML DB

Perform these steps initially and then follow the above procedure for installation

sql>@?/rdbms/admin/catnoqm

sql> alter tablespace XMLDB_TS offline;

sql> drop tablespace XMLDB_TS including contents;
